Obituary for Zigurds Kurmitis

Olga and Zigurds Kurmitis have both passed away peacefully. Olga left us on November 23, 2016 in her 92nd year and Zigurds on November 27, 2016 in his 96th year. Olga and Zigurds’ story was one of true love – they met on a blind date at a masquerade ball and were married for 66 years. They were adoring and devoted partners, and always wanted to be by each other’s side. Olga and Zigurds were the loving parents of Inara Timmermanis (Andy) and the late Alda Slater (Gord). They were caring vecmate and vectevs of Yasmine (Jonathan), Zachary, Vicky (Alex), and Kathy. Olga and Zigurds join Alda, their parents, and their brothers and sisters at God's side. Their kind and loving spirits touched many lives and they will be deeply missed. Both were proud members of the Latvian community. Olga was an expert pirag baker. Whether she was gardening, walking on the beach or drinking a cup of tea with her loved ones, her contagious smile, loving nature (and occasional feisty comments) warmed the room. Zigurds was a skilled craftsman and was eager to create custom-made wooden toys or lend a hand with home improvements. He was passionate about hunting and fishing, and more than anything, Zigurds was a loyal and caring family man. At their request, private family services were held. For those wishing to do so, please consider a donation to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, a cause close to their hearts.
