Mary Elizabeth Mackesy

MACKESY, Betty Surrounded by her family, Betty died peacefully on Sunday, February 28th in Naples, Florida. She was 93 years young. Left with sad hearts and wonderful memories are her children Pat and Arlene Mackesy, Dennis and Maija Mackesy, Betty Ann Beaty, Mary Jane and Larry Inglis, Sally and Sam Morgante. She was much loved by each of her 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Betty will also be missed by her sister Audrey, brother-in-law Leo and his wife Denny, sister-in-law Lorraine as well as many, many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Jack, her parents, brothers James and Roy, son in law Wayne. Betty grew up in Winnipeg where she met Jack. In 1948 they moved the first 3 of their 5 children to Hamilton. They made their home in Sacred Heart Parish where they have been faithful members since that time. Betty was an active member of the CWL, an avid bowler, and savvy bridge player. She was an enthusiastic sports fan and especially loved the Hamilton Tiger Cats and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. While raising her children, she became well known in the local area for her wonderful skills as a seamstress. Many hours were spent making bridal and wedding party dresses. She especially enjoyed sewing clothes for her daughters as they were growing and they were thrilled to have their own mom make their wedding dresses. Visitation is at the P.X. DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 796 Upper Gage Ave. (between Fennell and Mohawk) on Sunday, March 7, 2010 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Mass will be offered at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 19 Viewpoint Ave., Hamilton, on Monday, March 8, 2010, at 11 a.m. If desired, donations to the Parkinson’s Society, or charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
