Bailey, Winifred (nee Dillon) It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Winifred Bailey (Dillon) at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington on Saturday, July 17, 2010 in her 91st year. Win was born on April 1, 1920 in Burnley Lancashire England and emigrated to Canada in 1953. Win was the much beloved wife of Stephen (passed away February 6, 2010) for 64 years. Loving mother to Cecilia Bailey (Michael Labancz), Keith (Helen) Shackleton, Stephen (Jane) Bailey, Christopher (Jeanette) Bailey and Anne (Pat) Keller. Dear grandmother of Teresa (Tom), Andrea (Ken), Peter, Louise, Jack, Lizzie, Dylan (Tina), Chelsea, Danielle (Steven), Phillip (Alison), Jay and Bailey and great grandchildren Alexandra, Kelsie, Chloe, MacKenna, Brylee, Nicholas, Skyler and Henry. Predeceased by her son Paul Bailey (July 2009). Known for her unique wit and fiery spirit, Winifred's enduring passion for life remained till the end of her days. A veteran of WWII, Win served as a Sergeant in the RAF as a Parachute Rigger. Although her formal trade was an accomplished seamstress, her life was enriched by her five children, a joy more fulfilled as she watched their children grow. Win and devoted husband Steve travelled extensively, together sharing their love for dancing, singing and special times with family and friends. A proud woman, Win will be remembered fondly for her brilliance, signature Irish flair, and appreciation for glitz and glamour. Win's strong, no-nonsense character was balanced by a timeless elegance and zest for living. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered. Her legacy will be memorialized in the spirit of her children and grandchildren. We all loved her so very much. Visitation will be held at P.X. Dermody Funeral Home, 796 Upper Gage Ave. (Between Mohawk and Fennell) on Friday July 23, 2010 from 2-4 and 6-9 PM. Vigil prayers will take place at 7:30 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Burlington (2016 Blairholm Ave.) on Saturday July 24, 2010 at 10:30 am. Father Malcolm Katzenberger officiating. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Burlington. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army or McMaster Children’s Hospital would be appreciated. |
